Splat Saturday

Hello. Desperate times call for desperate measures and today I remembered to post new stuff that I doodled recently. Almost this whole week was devoted to drawing Off the Hook from Splatoon 2 and getting Pearl right, so here's the end result both with and without filter:

I drew Marina first and then I had to erase and start over Pearl a couple times. That is as close a likeness as I can get for now. At first, Pearl's "smug" face threw me off because she looks so aggressive and capable of murder (that may have influenced how I drew her) but after seeing more of her on YouTube and the internet in the form of game screenshots and fanarts, I kinda like her now. I love the Squid Sisters for their J-Pop quality among other things, but I also like that Off the Hook isn't a copycat and don't treat Callie and Marie like competition. Also, the irony in their designs: Marina wears a skimpy, revealing top but is super shy and a touch awkward with some possible anxiety, and Pearl is dressed in a girly yet equally tomboy fashion but has a rapper persona. Not to mention that an Octoling has become a pop sensation among Inklings and works so closely with one without problem. Off the Hook is akin to Nick and Judy from Zootopia, natural enemies that overlook their differences and become friends, and I love it. To be clear, I don't ship them, I don't really ship Nick and Judy, I just like the idea of their friendship.

Ok, so this week has been something of a trainwreck. My feelings overtook me early on and I decided I should take a break (a short one) from social media because aimlessly exploring through Instagram helped me feel worse about myself. My break was a bit short-lived because I checked my emails and my blogger here (😄) and I found a disturbing trend of my Tom Brady meme getting popular again and getting views from ESPN. Why, out of all the stuff I've made and made public, must that get popular? Why is ESPN showing up as a traffic source link? I know there was apparently Tom Brady news recently but I don't pay attention to sports because I don't really care for sports. I made a comment recently that if they say exercise is so good for you, why do all these athletes get injuries? And then today my dad injured himself. Fell off his bike while cycling with wannabe Tour de France winners. And they ran over him with their fancy carbon fiber bikes. And they called an ambulance for him to go to the hospital. My dad is battered and bruised along his left side (he usually injures his right) with visible blood on his knee and a hidden lump along a side and is currently in no condition to go to work Monday. With that in mind, I'd like to raise some money, even if I don't hired anywhere (my only reasons for caring are lack of money and makes me feel like I'm not good enough, but other than that it's no skin off of my back), so anyone interested in purchasing anything from my Redbubble would be helping me out. This is wishful thinking, but if I make more than is necessary for this event, then extra will go towards my personal use (new equipment for digital doodles...). I opened a society6 too but I have to verify my identity through Paypal before adding art and it requires $1 that I do not have at this present time so that's under construction. I hope you guys are having a better weekend, not that I'm feeling bad about anything because I did volunteer work today so it's only a cloudy day mentally. I wish you a good weekend.
