Friday Follies

Hello! It's Friday and I have some doodles:

Sorry, with work six days of the week now and not doing digital art (and I haven't gotten my tax return because of identity theft 😭long story... so I haven't gotten a replacement tablet), it's harder for me to post on here. I post just fine on Instagram and Tumblr because it's instant, and I think I need to get a camera just for that because every new post and picture steals away precious memory from my phone. Anyway, I doodled a fan character on scrap paper because I don't want to have to start a new page in my X-Men sketchbook, I need to finish one of the other pages I started. I drew her at the ages of 12 and 16, respectively. Then I finished my watercolor pet project with cartoon Kenta, his cat and this baby boy Takeshi. Not happy with how the cat's colors came out but I am limited with my colored pencils (both regular and watercolor) so I made an amateur attempt at blending blue with gray (I imagine a blue gray color). I bought a waterbrush last weekend and used it on this picture because I got tired of the old cheap brush misbehaving while I was using it. At the moment, I had a little more control with the old fashioned brush but that's because I've never used a waterbrush before now. I learned to let gravity bring the water down to the paper. And today, scrolling through my Tumblr dashboard brings up a lot of Frozen the Broadway because I am following a lovely fanfic writer/cosplayer who goes by wintermoonqueen and is very excited for it, and Anna is going to be supremely awkward in the show so there's my renditions of a couple of stills from the show. Yes, that's a cartoon version of John Riddle. Anna is leaning more towards her movie version but I did incorporate some of Patti Murin's Anna into how I drew her. I knew Anna was touchy feely, but she's taking it to a whole new level. Oh, I finally got my driver's license! I did like the pig in Zootopia, looking away from the camera when taking the picture but I got a good picture anyway...? I'm getting my bed and next week I'll start saving up to get my car running so that I don't have to depend on my parents (my mom mostly) so much anymore. I hope to come back next week with more doodles, even with my hectic schedule.

Modern Monday

Hello! Let's start this week with fresh doodles:

Oh look, it's modern!Frozen stuff. The north is getting tortured with the cold and getting hit with northeasters so I drew the doodle up top last Friday of 75% of the crew bundled up... Elsa has forgotten how to pretend to be normal ever since letting go... I obviously like the whole couple-wearing-one-scarf thing since I did it here with Kristanna. As much as I ship Helsa, I figure Hans wouldn't want to be right next the weirdo wearing a tank top and eating a Popsicle in such freakishly cold weather. I accidentally made a joke 😨 And today I got ahead of myself and drew Hans in a tuxedo. He's dressed to the nines but isn't sure if his dance partner is going to take his hand or not. The night of the Oscars, I made a quick sketch of Jimmy Kimmel's tuxedo jacket for future reference for this piece (yes, I used my sketch as reference) because I never see a man in a tuxedo outside of TV, living in South Florida where 95-98% of the people don't know how to dress because they spend 95% of the time dressed casual with flip flops as shoes (why do I keep using percentages?). His bowtie is actually his cravat he tied into a bow. Did he not find his bowtie in his luggage? Did he forget to pack it? (My headcanon is that he packed with the essentials for starting a life in Arendelle... How else did he have a coat of his own in the movie unless he was expecting to experience winter in Arendelle eventually? Yes, that's his coat because the designs on it don't match that of the guards' coats but do match those of his other clothes.) Did he wear it as a cravat at first but then have second thoughts while wearing it in that fashion? He clearly didn't have a problem with pairing the suit with the boots. πŸ˜† Frozen the Broadway is opening soon but I have to get so much done, like get myself a bed, my driver's license, and my car running. It's on the wishlist along with Hamilton (although my family is like all excited that he's gonna open it in Puerto Rico next year). Well, I have work till Friday (Saturday counts as next week according to my job's scheduling) so let's see if I come back this week with more doodles or not. Toodles.

Uhhhh, they're all fabulous?

Hello! My week already started but I forgot to post on Monday after work (sorry) but I have more doodles today than I did Monday, so there:

It's actually backwards but whatever. The top picture is of my latest watercolor and it's of an old OC that I revived for this art. She's not me. She's full-blood Taino from pre-colonial Cuba, whereas I'm a Cuban mutt with curly hair and a rounder face. I think I got my face shape from my Irish ancestors (yeah I have Irish. I don't how much, gotta do a DNA test), seeing as I've seen Irish women with similar faces. Maybe I should introduce her since she's here: Her name is Guey (Sun/Sunshine in Taino), she's a teen when the Spaniards reach Cuba. She actually comes from a story involving time travel but I don't know that I'll do anything with that anytime soon so it got retired a few years back. She'll probably make cameos in the future though (pun not intended). I did some research and made sure to draw Cuban flowers. My love for orchids has been explained. Before I finished the top picture today, I drew on Monday a baby Shatterstar. I got the idea Sunday night and decided to torture myself with sketching out my idea of him as a wee babby. Yes, he's naked but it's in the artistic way πŸ˜ƒ I was surprised to see 13 likes on Instagram with him this morning. And someone on Tumblr going by bobertdrake liked it (I get a kick out of that url). During the Oscars this past Sunday, I sketched modern!Elsa in Allison Janney's gown even though there were so many very nice gowns. I sketched out a couple of the ones that I liked. Sad thing is, the only nominated movies I saw were Star Wars and Kong:Skull Island... and neither one won anything. It was nice to see Mark Hamill, Oscar Isaac, Kelly Marie Tran, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

It's funny that today is International Women's Day. My first ever post showcasing my art on the internet was four years ago. It did not feature any females, just two of my boy OCs, one complaining like as if he was on his period and the other informing him that is International Women's Day. A lot has happened since then. I developed both my cartoon and stylized realism style, I got into digital art, I reworked my manga style and consequently started redesigning my OCs (should draw them more often... I've been meaning to get a sketchbook just for them), I lost the ability to do digital art at the moment, I got a job, and now I've been focusing on traditional art in my free time. To think this blog started because I had too much free time. I should change that in my description... Well, I'll be going now, see you next doodle.

Tumbling right into the weekend

Hello! I'm posting on a Friday! Yay for small miracles. I'm still painting OCs in my watercolor pencils so here you go:

I was going for a bold look and I guess I achieved that. It's Ariana doing a fancy backflip. I decided I had to a full body drawing capturing movement and Ariana seemed like a good candidate because I can see her pull gymnastic moves like this with relative ease. Why the costume? She's a superhero. Thankfully the color scheme was only three colors but the skin tone was one of my regular colored pencils because my watercolor pencil set is only 12 pencils. It's a start as I have no other choice but to focus on traditional mediums right now (I have a job but I haven't gotten around to getting a replacement tablet because there are so many things I absolutely need, like clothes). I went with lining with my black pencil from my set cuz I thought it'd be easier and produce a thicker line. I wasn't wrong with the thicker line part. Easier? Not exactly, but whatever. Speaking of easier, last month was rough both personally and monetarily for my family and I have this idea but I had to make a poll before I did anything hasty because that's no fun. I'm going to post it here but it made more sense to post it on my Tumblr and Instagram accounts because I want an actual response, which I haven't gotten yet.

A word of advice: Don't ever do what Shatterstar is doing. That gets you into the kind of trouble that would've gotten a smacking a couple generations back. Well, I wish you a happy weekend. Hope to come back soon.
